A number of people appear to be missing and 22 were hurt after the roof collapsed at the Algo Centre Mall. The OPP say they continue crossing off names on a list of potential missing people as members of the community account for their loved ones – but the list is two pages long. However, police won’t say exactly how many people are unaccounted for. They add of the 22 people injured, none of them were seriously hurt. An information line has been set up at 1-888-310-1122 and an emergency drop-in centre was operating at the Collins Hall, located on Hillside Drive North in Elliot Lake. Part of the shopping mall's roof serves as a parking lot and it was that section that collapsed just before 2:30 Saturday afternoon, destroying the kiosk area, which is opposite the food court. The collapse also caused a gas leak and officials cleared the mall, shut off the power, closed surrounding roads, and declared a state of emergency. The cause has not been determined, but the roof was known to have had leakage problems. Emergency workers continue digging through the rubble with a Heavy Urban Search and Rescue team from Toronto helping out.
