A tractor trailer driver from Welland faces numerous charges after a high speed chase in the Blind River area Wednesday night. The operator was stopped for erratic driving and while the cop was standing on the vehicle’s running board, the accused started to drive off. The rig headed west on Highway 17 but turned onto side highways in an effort to lose police. After reaching Thessalon the driver turned around and headed east. Police laid down a spike belt well ahead of the tractor trailer after stopping traffic and the two hour chase finally ended on Highway 17 by the Serpent River First Nation. The driver faces quite a few charges including alcohol related offenses plus three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
