NDP MPP Says Drummond Report Not Gloom and Doom

Hits

The MPP for Algoma Manitoulin says last week’s Drummond Report is not doom and gloom.   The report says if the McGuinty Liberals don’t implement its recommendations, Ontario’s $16 billion deficit will skyrocket to $30 billion in just six years.  But New Democrat MPP Mike Mantha says Drummond has painted an unrealistic picture of the future.  Mantha says Drummond is forecasting only two percent growth while the NDP believe growth of 2.7 percent is more likely.  Mantha says Drummond’s slower growth scenario creates a $10 billion shortfall in the economy and that’s a dollar amount the NDP believe will be there with higher growth.  Mantha says recommendations in the report like killing full day kindergarten should not be eliminated, something the Liberals say will continue.  Asked how the NDP would slash the massive deficit, Mantha says eliminate the wasteful spending that right now is unaccounted for.
