Money Available to Businesses Affected by Mall Collapse

Money is now available to businesses affected by the loss of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake.  Any business, regardless of whether it was in the mall, can receive up to $25,000 if it was affected by the roof-top collapse.  This is an interest free loan for up to two years.  The money is being provided to help businesses along while the new Pearson Plaza is built.  Businesses have to apply to the East Algoma Community Futures Development Corporation for the money.

Fedeli: Liberals Still Playing Games With ONTC

 Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Liberals still won't come clean over the sale of Ontario Northland.   When the Liberals announced the sale last year they said it would save Ontario taxpayers $265-million.    But Fedeli says the government's own Ministry of Finance has produced documents showing the sell-off will actually cost $790-million.   Despite this huge cost difference, Fedeli says he can't get Premier Kathleen Wynne to cancel the sale.

Mississagi Provincial Park Gets Chance to Prove Its Worth

Mississagi Provincial Park, north of Elliot Lake, is now headed in a new direction.  The park is now open for business but it’s being staffed and operated by the city instead of the province.  Last year the Liberal government announced several park closures in Northern Ontario because of low usage.  However the province later opted for a one year pilot project where Elliot Lake takes over the park.  The goal is to increase the number of visitors and revenue.  However if there's a loss, the city and not the province, takes the hit.

Island Resident Awarded Jubilee Medal

 A resident of Manitoulin is the latest recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal.  Marion Seabrook of Mindemoya is a cultural workhorse in the community at the age of 84.  Seabrook works with the historical society to preserve heritage farming items and she also had a hand in renovating the community hall.
