First off, I bet you thought I was referring to waiting for the Toronto Maple Leafs to win another Stanley Cup. NO. I said waiting for 20 years not 40. At my age there is no way I am going to wait until I’m between the ages of 60 and 69 to be happy. A new study conducted in the states says that men are at their happiest between 60 and 69 and least happy in their 20’s. Apparently older adults are better at coping with stressful situations which could mean they experience less negative emotions. They also spend less time dwelling on the negative aspects of a situation which leads to a greater feeling of happiness. Just who do these people survey anyway? I have never had an issue with age. I hit 30, I survived. I hit 40, I survived. I hit 50, I survived…I hit, well you get the idea. For me I can’t think of how the decade that will be my sixties can compare to the age of 25-35 (roughly) when I saw the birth of two daughters and 2 major music industry nominations. Now there’s my current age and the decade ahead. I just became a grandfather for the first time, I look forward to weddings and more grandchildren and the success I foresee for my daughters. I argue that just because a poll or study says 60-69, nobody should sit on their ass and wait for it. Make your happiness now.
