Military Convoys Coming Through Parry Sound Area

Two large military convoys will be coming through the Parry Sound area next month.  2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group will be conducting Exercise CHARGING DRAGOON and Exercise SPARTAN BEAR from May 1 through 17th.  The convoys will be travelling from CFB Petawawa on major highways and secondary roads on their way to the Land Force Central Area Training Centre in Meaford.  Public Affairs Officer for the brigade group Sally-Ann Cyr explains the size of these convoys.

During these exercises residents may see soldiers with military weapons and equipment, but disruption is expected to be minimal.  Click Read More below for a detailed route of the convoys.

Here are the detailed routes of both exercises:

May 1 – 7 military convoys with Exercise CHARGING DRAGOON will be travelling from CFB Petawawa on Highway 17 to North Bay and on Highway 11 to Highway 124 to Parry Sound.  The convoys will then continue on Highway 69 and Highway 12 through to the Bass Lake area, west of Orillia.  From there, convoys will travel on Highway 26 through the Collingwood area and on secondary roads south of Highway 26 to Land Force Central Area Training Centre Meaford and to the west of the training area.

May 7 – 10 military convoys with Exercise SPARTAN BEAR will be travelling from CFB Petawawa on Highway 17 to North Bay and on Highway 11 to Highway 124 to Parry Sound.  The convoy will continue on Highway 69 and Highway 12 through to the Bass Lake area, west of Orillia.  From there, convoys will travel on Highway 26 through the Collingwood area and on secondary roads south of Highway 26 to Land Force Central Area Training Centre Meaford.

May 16 – 17 military convoys will return to CFB Petawawa along Highway 400 to Highway 11 and then continue on to Highway 17.
