VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND FIREWORKS The Municipality of McDougall will stage fireworks on Saturday, May 18th at dusk. Fireworks this year will be held at Kinsmen Park. (rain date is Sunday). "Mission Park “From the Ground Up” May 18th (Saturday) Mission Park "From the Ground Up" will be having a BBQ fundraiser at M&M Meat Shops on May 18th. For any donation above the cost of a hamburger or hotdog customers will have their name put into a draw for a Bobby Orr sweater, and Island Queen tickets. Scotia Bank Parry Sound is matching the money raised from the barbecue. About This Initiative Mission Park “From the Ground Up” is a grassroots community initiative with the goal of transforming Mission Park. The 1.7 acre park is located on Emily Street with typical playground equipment that serves the Harbour area of the Town. The park is in need of a facelift. This project is being led by community volunteers. It’s about the children, It’s about our community, the kids and families of our community. It’s about environmental action by improving our community through natural landscaping, ground cover improvement, floral displays and healthy urban forests. Community vegetable and flower gardens will be a key component of the transformation project. To the greatest extent possible, kids will be involved in all aspects of this initiative. "Parry Sound Cruzers Car Club”, Cruise Night every Tuesday at 6.30 pm, May 21 through Sept 3, 2013 at the Town Dock Parking Lot of the 30,000 Island Cruise Lines. The Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve presents the exhibit “Life in The Biosphere” at the Museum on Tower Hill from April 3rd to May 30th Some Saturdays during the exhibit, Kids are invited to take part in a variety of activities. There will be a pre-registration(705-774-0978) for each session, and a maximum of 20. The suggested age range for the kids should be 8-12. Donations are always welcome! May 18th (Saturday) Local athletes representing Canada on the Canadian National Junior Dragonboat Team are hosting a Pancake Breakfast & Garage Sale on Saturday 18th May 7am to 11 am at McKellar Community Centre. This is a fundraising event to help these athletes with their costs in attending the World Championships in Hungary July 2013. Bring your vehicle packed with all your unwanted items & sell them in the garage sale & you make some money too. $8 per vehicle. Pancake breakfast in the hall is $6 per adult $4 per child (under 5's free). May 18th (Saturday) The Festival of the Sound is holding "Spring into Summer" at the Bobby Orr Community Centre Saturday May 18th. A day full of rummage sales, bake sales and live performances in support of some of your favorite local charities. Daytime events will run from 9:30 am to 4 pm, admission is free with a non-perishable food donation to Harvest Share. Spend the day browsing the sales and then settle in for a delicious spaghetti dinner afterward with a concert featuring the winners of “Parry Sound’s Got Talent 2013”. Anniversary Weekend (Looking Back) – On Saturday, June 1st, at 7:30 p.m. the Elliot Lake Men of Song will entertain us. On Sunday, June 2nd, we will hold the ‘official’ anniversary service when we will take time to reflect on our past and what we have learned. June 02nd (Sunday) The Algonquin Regiment Veterans will hold their annual Ceremonial at 2:30pm on Sunday, June 2nd at the Algonquin Memorial on the fitness trail. Flag raising, floral tributes and D-Day Remembrance. June 06th (Thursday) Students from Parry Sound High School are travelling to Europe next June to participate in the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. In advance of next year's trip, they are holding a Walk-A-Thon on June 6th. The 8 km Walk replicates the distance that Canadian soldiers advanced on the first day of fighting in 1944. The Walk-A-Thon is being held to raise funds to support the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy France and to offset the cost of the trip. Students will be going door to door to collect pledges for this event. July 06th (Saturday) Joe’s Team triathlon/duathalon will be taking place at the CNIB Centre at Lake Joseph on July 6th . All proceeds from this event go to support construction of the Joe Finley Head and Neck Translational Research Centre, and since 2006 has raised $6.3 million making it the most successful grassroots fundraising initiative in the history of the hospital. Collectively, Joe’s Team has raised $8.3 million of its $10 million goal. September 21st-22nd (Saturday-Sunday) Saint James United Church. Anniversary Weekend (Looking Forward) – The weekend of September 21st and 22nd will be the highlight of our year. On the Saturday evening, we will host a dinner (6:00 p.m.) and variety night (7:30 p.m.) featuring members of the congregation as well as the surrounding community in music, song and laughter.
