THIS JUST IN: Local Steelworkers Mark One Year of Lay-offs

It is a bitter reminder of the damage to the local industrial sector. Locked-out and laid-off steelworkers from Haldimand and Norfolk gathered at Lake Erie work yesterday to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of massive lay-offs at U-S Steel. Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says well over a thousand people have lost work due to the Nanticoke lay-offs, but there is no help in sight. Barrett says the recent throne speech holds no mention of a strategy for the steel industry. He says the government is out of touch with what matters to the people.
