BREAKING NEWS: Man Dead after Hamilton Shooting

A fight at a house party in Hamilton has left one man dead. Police say two men pulled out guns and fired into the crowd before taking off. Three innocent bystanders at the Dundurn Street party were shot. Eighteen-year-old Brandon Musgrave was pronounced dead in hospital yesterday, after he was taken off life support. The two other victims, aged between 18 and 21, have been released from hospital. The investigation continues.

THIS JUST IN: Local Steelworkers Mark One Year of Lay-offs

It is a bitter reminder of the damage to the local industrial sector. Locked-out and laid-off steelworkers from Haldimand and Norfolk gathered at Lake Erie work yesterday to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of massive lay-offs at U-S Steel. Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says well over a thousand people have lost work due to the Nanticoke lay-offs, but there is no help in sight. Barrett says the recent throne speech holds no mention of a strategy for the steel industry. He says the government is out of touch with what matters to the people.

HAPPENING RIGHT NOW: Grand River on the Rise in Haldimand

The Grand River Conservation Authority is issuing a flood warning advisory for Caledonia, York, Cayuga and Dunnville. With the warmer temperatures and the rainfall mixed with melting snow, the Grand River in Haldimand County is expected to reach peak levels today. The GRCA is expecting flooding in the floodplain flats, but not in the communities themselves. The river peaked through Cambridge and Brantford yesterday before continuing south.

YOU NEED TO KNOW: Industrial Fire in Hamilton

An industrial fire in Hamilton has caused about $20,000 in damages. Firefighters say the blaze broke out at Thompson Waste Transfer on Friday night. Due to the large amount of smoke pouring out of the building, police went door-to-door around the neighbourhood, warning people to keep their windows and doors shut and to stay inside. The Ministry of the Environment conducted multiple air tests and found the smoke was not hazardous. There is no word on what caused the fire.

BREAKING NEWS: More Industrial Job Cuts in Hamilton

The embattled industrial sector in Hamilton is taking yet another hit. The Siemens Energy gas turbine plant will be closing its doors in July next year. More than 500 people will be losing their jobs over the next 12 to 18 months as Siemens moves the work to North Carolina. There's also word that the company could be making an announcement within the next three months on other investments in Ontario.

HAPPENING RIGHT NOW: Hamilton Woman Recovering After Spinal Surgery

A Hamilton woman hit by a car while riding her motorcycle is recovering after surgery on her spine. Thirty-one-year-old Darlene Jackson was hit Tuesday afternoon while riding on Highway 6 near Flamborough. A family friend is saying the eight-hour surgery went well, but it is too early to say what will happen. Friends and family are working together to raise money to support Jackson's two sons and pay for her long-term care. A benefit is being held March 21st from 2 o'clock until 9 at Fat Boy's Bar and Grill.

THIS JUST IN: Hamilton's New Medical Research Centre Opens

Hamilton is celebrating its newest medical jewel. The David Braley Cardiac, Vascular and Stroke Research Institute officially opened its doors yesterday. Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement announced the grand opening of the $100-million facility. President and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences Murray Martin says the facility puts Hamilton in line with similar facilities in North Carolina and the United Kingdom. The 200,000 square foot building is the star of the Hamilton General Hospital site.

YOU NEED TO KNOW: Industrial Fire in Flamborough

An industrial fire forced neighbouring residents from their homes in Flamborough. The blaze broke out at the Rothsay rendering plant on Highway 5 yesterday afternoon. Heavy smoke began pouring from the plant and drifting down the road towards the homes. About half a dozen residents were evacuated for two hours while the fire was put out. The cause of the fire is not known and the investigation continues.
