Timmins in Top 10 for Worst Roads

A street in Timmins has made it to the CAA’s top 10 Worst Roads in Ontario.  Kraft Creek Road is ranked the fourth worst road in the province.  Residents who voted in the annual poll say the road is atrocious and should be torn up.  Timmins was the only Northern community to make the top 10 worst list.  Toronto had four streets in the top 10 and Dufferin was ranked the worst.

Man Charged After Bank Card Theft

A 20-year-old Elliot Lake man has been charged after a bank card was stolen and money withdrawn from a woman’s account.  The woman had friends over during the weekend and after everyone had left, she noticed her bank card was gone.  She checked her bank account and discovered some money was missing.  The accused is charged with theft under $5,000 and fraud under $5,000.

Our Lady of Lourdes Gets New Principal

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board has named five new principals.  One of them is Fil Lettieri who takes over at Our Lady Our Lourdes in Elliot Lake.  Lettieri’s appointment was unexpected because he replaces former principal Cheryl Grant who passed away suddenly last month.  Lettieri says he accepts the appointment with a heavy heart and hopes he can bring as much passion to the position as Grant did.

LHIN Recognizes Huron Lodge

The Huron Lodge in Elliot Lake and its CEO have been recognized for the work they do for high risk seniors.  Gil Contant and the Huron Lodge have been named Healthy Change Champions for the assisted living services the facility provides.  Services the home provides include security checks and homemaking.  The North East Local Health Integration Network handed out the award.

ATV Roll-Over Critically Injures Parry Sound-Area Man

A Parry-Sound area man is in critical condition after an ATV accident.  The 55-year-old was on a trail in the Parry Sound area on the weekend when his ATV rolled over.  OPP say the man has life-threatening injuries and is on life-support at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital.  Police are continuing their investigation.
