First Nation Man Dies After Incident

A resident of the Constance Lake First Nation in Northeastern Ontario has died after the man was found lying in a ditch on Saturday.  OPP in Hearst say the 23-year-old died as a result of his injuries yesterday.  Police have arrested two men from the reserve and they’re charged with aggravated assault.    There’s no word yet if more charges will be laid following the First Nation man’s death.

North Bay Man Charged with Stunt Driving

A North Bay man who bought a new car and then tested it out has paid a high price.  OPP have impounded the vehicle after the man was clocked at 167 kilometres an hour just west of the city on Highway 17.  The speed limit on the Highway is 50 kliks an hour.  The man has lost his license and brand new car for seven days and if convicted of stunt driving he’ll face at least a $2,000 fine.

Highway Load Spill Results in Charges

A tractor trailer driver faces several charges after his rig rolled over in Sudbury Monday afternoon.  The mishap occurred at the Highway 17 and Regional Road 55 intersection while the big truck was turning.   Police say the rig rolled over and its load of MDF boards spilled across the highway.  The highway was closed for five hours while the mess was cleaned up.  Charges against the driver include careless driving and having an insecure load.

Sudbury Police Catch Horse Thieves

Sudbury police have caught a couple of horse thieves.  The thieves in this case are 12 and 14 year-old girls.  Police say the girls took the animals from a farm in Valley East Sunday night and rode them along Highway 69 North.  Then they rode into Sudbury early Monday morning where police arrested the pair close to the downtown.  The girls face several charges including causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and mischief endangering life.  The horses weren’t hurt, but police say they were very tired.

Sudbury Group Concerned Over Proposed Casino

Not everyone in Sudbury is crazy about the idea of a casino being built in the city.  The group Concerned Casino Citizens wants the powers that be to consider the economic and social impacts before building the gambling house.  One of its concerns is how casino operators target seniors.  The group is worried because seniors on a limited income can’t afford to lose money at gambling.
