The Ministry of Natural Resources has announced some welcome news today for most of the southern portion of the Northeast Region; the Restricted Fire Zone order is lifted. It will allow the legal starting of open camp fires, but campers are reminded that municipal restrictions may still be in effect. Meanwhile eight new fires have been reported up to news time. It follows a pretty hectic weekend with 33 blazes reported; fortunately none were of major concern to Fire Rangers who were able to deal with them fairly quickly. There have been over 1,200 fires to date in the province with more than 135,000ha burned.
