City and Town Halls across Northeastern Ontario have begun flying the provincial flag at half mast. It’s in protest of the provincial government’s decision to privatize Ontario Northland. So far Premier Dalton McGuinty won’t meet with the communities to explain why he’s selling off the passenger rail and bus service. And North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says McGuinty’s behaviour has frustrated municipal leaders across the north.
McDonald says the flags will stay at half mast for as long as it takes. The sell off affects 1,000 people, with most of them working in North Bay.
