The Downtown BIA wants to have parking in public spaces and on-road to be penalty free during late hours, especially at winter time. Councillor Noella Rinaldo says there have been instances where people attending the local taverns, are getting ticketed because of the current time frame. There is no parking in city lots or on road during the winter from 10:00pm. Rinaldo suggests that the city extend the time allowable for nighttime parking.

She added that way the people set as designated drivers don’t have to worry about getting a $50 ticket for supposed snow removal in city parking lots that sometimes never takes place.

Several downtown businesses support this move, including Gibby’s Tavern and the Victory Tavern. It also has the backing of MADD Canada. Mayor Tom Laughren says currently the City isn’t supposed to ticket until after 2:00am, but asked for a report to come back on the logistics for such an adjustment.
