Two Victims of Friday Crash Identified

Police are identifying the two people killed in Friday morning’s crash east of the junction of Highway 101 and 144. South Porcupine OPP says 32-year-old Paul Charbonneau and 67-year-old Normand Rozon, both of Timmins, were killed in the two-vehicle crash that involved a school bus and SUV. There were no students on the bus at the time. Police are still trying to determine the root cause of the crash.

 

Biologist Unharmed in Bear Incident

A biologist is unharmed and now the MNR and OPP are investigating. Foleyet OPP says a biologist working in the area of Vimy Creek near the Ground Hog River was repeatedly approached by a bear Sunday. The man used bear spray to ward off the bear for 40 minutes until he was safe in his vehicle. Police are warning anyone in the Kukatush Road area in Reese Township to be wary of bear activity. Gogama Man Faces Charges in Confrontation with Police

A Gogama man faces a slew of charges after an incident Sunday. Police spotted a driver who was known to be under suspension. When they tried to pull him over, he refused to stop and was later approached at a residence in Town. The man then had a physical confrontation with an officer. His truck was eventually towed from the scene and he faces a number of charges.

 

Motorcyclist Faces Street Racing Charges

Another street racing charge. On Friday police clocked a motorcycle travelling 141km/hr in a posted 90km zone on Highway 655 north of Timmins. The 51-year-old Timmins man’s licence has been suspended and motorcycle impounded for seven days. He will appear in court in July to answer to charges.

 

Two People Confirmed Dead in Early Crash Involving School Bus

Two people are confirmed dead in a crash east of the Highway 144/101 junction. Police say it happened this morning around 5:00am and involved a mini-van and a school bus. The OPP says there is no indication that any children were on the bus at the time. Since both vehicles caught fire, there will be a thorough investigation once it is safe to do so. Roads in the area are closed and drivers are being asked to avoid the area. The identities of the two people have not been released.

 

Bikes Being Awarded Thanks to Financial Donation

Five new shiny bikes are being donated to five children in the region. Imerys Talc provided financial support to North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services for the organization to buy five bicycles to be awarded to children in Cochrane and Timiskaming. Children were entered in the draw if they successfully completed a word search or colour challenge during Children’s Mental Health week. The donation will take place Monday at the Timmins NEOFACS office at 11:30.
