Relay for life

Hits

This Friday is the BIG night in Haliburton County, a culmination of a years worth of hard work by a group of dedicated and imaginative volunteers whose only goal is to raise as much money as possible for the eradication of Cancer. That’s right it’s the Fourth Annual Haliburton County Relay for Life. Last year there was over 700 participants and over 100 volunteers and they raised just over $190,000. which is staggering when you think of the population base of this area, but this year the goal is over $200,000.  The track around Hal High will transform into a tent city Friday afternoon, with 2 stages for entertainment, a food tent and a revitalization tent offering spa treatments, massages and stuff like that to keep the relayer’s going thru the night. The entertainment is non-stop from 5pm Friday till things wrap-up on Saturday morning at 7am.and it’s not just for the people doing the Relay, if you’d like to just come and buy a meal and watch some entertainment you can, in fact while your there you can put in a bid on one of the silent auction items or buy a Luminaire in memory of a loved one or in support of the cause they are only $5. and you can take part in the Luminary ceremony at 10pm.it is a spectacular site when they turn down the lights. The Survivor lap is also a moving and emotional site when the people who have survived the battle with cancer walk around the track to the encouraging cheers of the crowd it takes place 7pm on Friday. My hats off to Aggie Tose, Mike and Wendy Illes and all of the volunteers who put this magnificent evening together and may you sleep well on Saturday!
