Police Warn of New Scam

Hits

The OPP is warning the public to be aware of a potential scam.  Some Haliburton residents have received bogus e-mails from someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency, indicating that the recipient is entitled to a refund.  The e-mail then goes on to request personal information such as birth dates and social insurance numbers.

The CRA will not request personal information of any kind from a taxpayer by e-mail.

If you suspect that you may have been a victim of this scam, the OPP urge you to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
