Heart attacks are one of the prime causes of death and Trillium Lkelands District School Board administrators want to make sure they’re as ready as they can be. This week, every staff person in every secondary school will be educated about the use of defibrillators that are now available in each of the boards secondary schools. The move is a multi-tiered partnership funded by the Heart and Stroke foundation and facilitated by emergency personnel in the Boards region. The odds of survival for an out of hospital cardiac arrest are about 5 per cent. Defribrillation combined with CPR can improve those rates by up to 50 per cent if delivered quickly.
