Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

Hits

With the world’s attention focused primarily on Haiti right now, I think it’s an important time for us to remind ourselves not to sweat the small stuff.

Take time out of your day today and think about all of the things you are grateful for….good health or the health of a loved one, a home, a job, loving family and friends, great weather for winter sports (if you’re into that sort of thing J ), good food, and anything or anyone else that you are truly grateful for.

Now, the next time someone bumps into you on the street and doesn’t say ‘excuse me’, or if your parents ground you for poor grades, or if you can’t fit into that new dress because of the few extra pounds you put on over Christmas…stop and think about how much worse things could be for you before you complain.

Take a moment to think about the five year old boy that spent 9 days buried underneath the rubble of his home in Haiti before being rescued last night.  The poor little guy must have been absolutely terrified and unable to understand what was happening to him.  Or, think about the 2 million people who now have no place to live in an already impoverished nation, many who have lost loved ones to this disaster.

So today, when you’re ready to sweat the small stuff, remember that things in your life could be much, MUCH worse…and maybe send some positive energy out to the people of Haiti who really need it…positive energy goes a long way.  And, of course, if you are able to make a financial contribution to the Haiti relief effort, then that’s great too!

P.S…I plan on focusing on all of the positives in my life today too J
