School Hopes Mascot Issue Resolved

Hits

Chippewa Secondary and Nipissing First Nation have an agreement on the use of the school’s mascot. However, neither side offers any specifics. School mascot, Joe Raider became the subject of controversy when it was used in the local Santa Claus parade two months ago. The mascot is dressed in a buck-skin outfit and sports a head-band with the school’s name on it. Complainants say this is offensive to First Nations. But in a news release the board emphasizes the mascot is not intended to be derogatory or disrespectful.
