Canada’s first ever 5150 Triathlon is happening in our backyard. The event is taking place July 2^nd, 2012 and Huntsville was chosen to host it. TriMuskoka’s Kyra Watters says Toronto was a huge contender.

As the largest international distance triathlon series in the world, the race had a swim, bike and run component.

Watters says other events such as the kids triathlon the day before could bring Huntsville in that one weekend about $1.5-million in revenue. During Monday’s council meeting, council approved to wave the nearly $3,300 to rent the Summit Centre for the event. The money is coming out our mayor’s discretionary fund.
