The first human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) found in Simcoe Muskoka this year has been confirmed. Lab tests confirm the infection in an adult male from Orillia. It was discovered during a routine blood donation. He’s recovering now at home. The majority of people infected with WNV don’t show symptoms, and most who do experience mild illness like fever, headache, body aches, nausea or rashes on the chest, stomach or back. Less than one per cent experience serious symptoms like high fever, severe headache or confusion. In rare instances it can cause encephalitis or death.
