March 19th A Benefit dance and silent auction will be held for a Port Sydney mechanic who lost his hands in a snowmobiling accident. After being exposed to minus 30 degree temperatures, Chris Annis' hands and toes had to be amputated. The dance and auction will be held Friday, March 19th at the Huntsville Legion. March 24th The Huntsville Lake of Bays Rotary Club proudly presents Captain Ray Wiss, M.D. author of ‘On the Front Lines in Afghanistan-A War Diary.’ His book gives a clear picture of why we are in Afghanistan and what our soldiers have accomplished. The event will take place at the Algonquin Theatre on March 24th. Tickets are $20.00 and are available at the Theatre box office. Show starts at 7:30pm. All proceeds will help fund projects in our community and in countries of need. March 27th The Port Carling Figure Skating Club will be having their annual Figure Skating Carnival on Saturday, March 27th beginning at 6:30pm. Admission is by donation. March 27th There will be a Spaghetti Dinner at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Gravenhurst on Saturday March 27th with 5:00pm and 6:30pm sittings. End of April Bracebridge Public School's grade 7 and 8 students are raising money for their class trip to Quebec and you can help. If you have any scrap metal laying around, drop it off for the BPS 7/8 metal drive. Scrap metal can be dropped off at Bracebridge Machine and Mechanical located on EP Lee Drive. The drive runs until the end of April. April 3rd On Saturday, April 3rd it's the 10th Annual Bala and District Lioness Easter Bazaar and Flea Market. The event begins at 9:00am and goes until 3:00 pm at the Bala Community Centre. Food and beverages will be available. There is no admission fee. Vendors are also wanted. It will run Monday evenings at Huntsville’s Chaffey Hall from Monday, February 1st to March 29th(except for Feb 15th & March 15th). The program will be offered to Dads and other “special big guys” and their kids (age 0 to 6) from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. This season they will be offering free confidential nutritious meals three nights a week. Doors open at 5:30pm and dinner is served around 6:00pm. for volunteering and other questions. (Dinners end April 14th) The Muskoka Photography Club meets every third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are downstairs at the Raymond Community Centre between 7:00 – 9:00pm. The gathering consists of reviewing one or two photos from attending members and then a discussion/learning session on various camera topics and/or photographic computer programs. The meeting is hosted by Paul Bennett, one of Muskoka’s renowned photographers. There is no charge or fees to attend. All levels of photographers are welcome to join. The "Getting Ready for Baby" series of classes consists of three 2-hour sessions before baby arrives and one 2-hour session after baby is here. This series is available for expectant parents during the last 3 months of pregnancy. At the "Getting Ready for Baby" series you will learn about: -Nurturing your baby -Keeping your baby safe -Feeding your baby -Becoming a parent -What life will be like with baby in the first few weeks The "Getting Ready for Baby" series is available in Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville. Muskoka O.S.P.C.A in Bracebridge is looking for volunteers to help take care of animals in the shelter. If you can spare a few hours a week the O.S.P.C.A needs volunteers to help with pet walking, dishes, laundry or cleaning kennels. From 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Monday to Saturday. Good quality dog and cat canned food, or monetary donations are always welcome. With so many animals and so few staff, the O.S.P.C.A. needs your help. Call 645 6225.
