Elliot Lake doubled the South Muskoka Shield 8 - 4 while Huntsville lost to Georgetown 3 – 2 in overtime Friday. The Otters defeated Collingwood 8-2 yesterday.

Deadly 4 Days On The Trails

It’s been deadly on the snowmobile trails in the central region. O.P.P. are investigating a fourth snowmobile related death in four days after a snowmobiler crested a hill and struck a tree on a trail in McMurrich/Monteith Township. Police are not releasing any more details at this time. On Thursday 17-year-old Brandon Downes died after his snowmobile left the trail and hit a tree. 54-year-old Stephen Pink died Friday after his sled left a roadway and crashed on South Gibson Lake Road in Georgian Bay and a 57-year-old man died after his snowmobile crashed into a tree in Oro Medonte Saturday. Police are encouraging operators to drive according to their ability, the trail conditions and within the posted speed limit.

Minor Hockey Weekend Results

Congratulations to the Bracebridge Riverside Inn Peewee Bears on winning their best of 5 OMHA series with Midland.   The Bears went in to this weekend’s games down 2.  Friday night was do or die and the Bears defeated midland 6-1. Saturday the Bears took the game 3-1.  Back at home Sunday, the Bears blanked Midland 2-0.  They will move on to their next round to face Saugeen Shores. 

 

The Boston Pizza Tyke Bears defeated the Gravenhurst Flames 5 – 1 yesterday.

 

The Bracebridge Fowler Atom A’s advance to play Prince Edward County after downing Huntsville 4-1.

 

The Huntsville Huskies defeated Markham 5-1 on Saturday and 4-1 on Sunday.

Musicians Sought For G8

The G8 Summit isn't just for politicians. Musicians from Muskoka and Parry Sound are being asked to get involved. If you or your band can fill a 20-30 minute set, consider auditioning to open for the headliner at the International Youth Summit. Auditions are not limited to age, but you need to have at least one original song. Try-outs are next Friday afternoon in Huntsville. Pre-registration is required.

Here are the requirements to audition

-Must be a resident of Muskoka or Parry Sound

-Must bring proof of residence to audition

-Must be able to fill a 20-30 minute set

-Must have at least one original song

-Solo musicians or full bands of any age welcome

-Must be available to play the night of June 25 th (venue to be determined)

 Audition details

-Friday, February 12 at the Algonquin Theatre 37 Main Street, Huntsville

 3:00 p.m. - 8 p.m.

-perform at least one song and speak about yourself and/or your band
