It looks like the Victor Diamond Mine just outside of Attawapiskat is going to expand. The Canadian Environmental Agency began a federal environmental assessment for the proposed new site about 6 and a half kilometers northwest of the original mine site. The second pit is expected to have a mine life of about seven years. Comments from the public will be received by the agency until July 4^th. A trust fund has been set up in memory of Dustin Dagenais a paramedic killed in an Ornge Air Ambulance crash last week just outside of Moosonee. Dustin leaves behind his wife and little girl. Friends of Greenwater are going to be holding a meeting on Wednesday June 12^th at the Tim Horton Event Centre Hall at 7:00pm. The MNR has indicated that it would be interested in hearing proposals to re-open Greenwater Park. The Friends of Greenwater want to give those who use the park an opportunity to say how they would like to see the park operated. That will be the focus of the meeting and will also give several proposals as to how to run the park along with staffing issues. Organizer of the Friends of Greenwater event Lyn Ivall says she just wants to see Greenwater park be the best she can possibly be for all of us. How she gets there from here remains to be seen.
